SSPA OTHER EVENTS - WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The World Championship consists of 80 riders taking part in 5 qualifying events, the riding order will be drawn out of a hat and the event is held over 20 heats, each rider has 5 heats. In the event of a tie, then a race off will be held to determine the place, whether it is the winner, 2nd or 3rd, 4th or 5th depending on the number needed from each event.

 

Riders from each event automatically qualifying for a 24 rider one off World Final as per the schedule below :

 

 

Australasian Championship - 4 qualifiers
Rest of the World Championship - 2 qualifiers
British Championships - 5 qualifiers
Scandinavian Championship - 5 qualifiers
European Championship - 5 qualifiers

 

 

The other four riders will be the three highest scoring non qualifiers from events 1, 3, 4 & 5, the highest scorers in event 2 are not eligible via this route as it is seen as a weaker championship and easier to score points in. The winner of the last event will be crowned World Champion.

 

The event schedule is as follows :

 

Qualifier 1 (Week 3) - Australasian Championship (Australia and New Zealand)

 

Qualifier 2 (Week 7) - Rest of the World (USA, Canada, Russia)

 

Qualifier 3 (Week 10) - British Championships (England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales)

 

Qualifier 4 (Week 14) - Scandinavian Championships (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland)

 

Qualifier 5 (Week 16) - European Championship (Poland, Czech, Slovak, Dutch, German, Slovenian, Hungarian, Italian)
